ANALYTICAL STUDY OF SURFACE AND SUBSURFACE WATER SYSTEM OF BALCO INDUSTRIAL AREA IN KORBA, CHHATTISGARH, INDIA

ABSTRACT

 

Water is one of the precious and natural materials out the basic components of living system. Owing to random using of the natural source continuously deteriorates the basic quality. In our mega project considered to explore of various kinds of pollutants in Balco industrial area and adjoining area. For this purpose selected ten important sampling locations assigned from BS1 to BS10. Water samples were collected as per prescribed procedure during the Oct-10 to Dec-10. Preserved samples were subjected for water quality analysis and the results were compared with standard value stipulated by BIS(2004) and WHO(2008) standard drinking water. The experimental value was computed for mathematical parameters like mean, ranging, SD, SE, % CV, correlation matrix and WQI. The mean data for EC, Turbidity, TDS, T.Alkaline and TH were above the desirable level but slightly lower than excessive limit. Iron and Aluminum were higher in GW source (0.93 and 4.106 mg/L) than surface water system (0.981 mg/L and 0.853 mg/L). Water quality index is high for the sampling spot BS9. The indication of high loading of pollutants
