PERFORMANCE AND EMISSION STUDY OF DIESEL ENGINE USING ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY BIODIESEL FUEL FROM JATROPHA CURCUS OIL

ABSTRACT

 

Air pollution is a very serious problem of world. Combustion of fossil fuels (Petrol and Diesel) contributes the major part for the formation of air pollution. However major part of the energies is obtained from diesel engines using Petroleum diesel fuel. The diesel engines are commonly used for industry, agricultural and automobiles sectors because of its easy handling and low cost. Combustion of this Petroleum diesel in diesel engines liberates several air pollutants like sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide and hydrocarbons to atmosphere leading to destruction of environment. Biodiesel is the one of well known environmentally low polluted fuel. Hence present study was made to conserve the environment using environmentally low polluted fuel (Jatropha biodiesel) from Jatropha curcus oil. For this study biodiesel can be produced by a two-step catalyzed method and the biodiesel were blended with Petroleum diesel from 10-50%. The engine performance and emission profiles of Jatropha biodiesel blends were examined in single cylinder, four stroke, kirloskar diesel engine at various engine loads (No load, Partial load and Full load).
