ABSTRACT

 

Turbulent jets are of great engineering importance and are often used for mixing effluents with the ambient and disperse them safely. They are also used to dissipate excess energy of flow, for flocculation in water treatment plants, cleaning of gravel beds of rivers for fish spawning, cooling surfaces, heating and ventilation of buildings, etc. The mean velocity distribution in jets satisfies self-similarity and the flow field of the jet is analyzed in two distinct ways for the developing and the fully developed regions.
