ABSTRACT

Lead is a naturally occurring metal and has a wide range of commercial use. Also it is used as an Additive in Petrol. This wide spread demand of lead is fulfilled by mining, which may cause exposure to human being by ingestion and inhalation routes. In the present review, a detailed account of respiratory toxicity and interference with haem synthesis of human exposure to lead dust is being analyzed. It is a general apprehension that lead mining has a large detrimental effect on the human health but it is important to submit here that the air borne lead level due to other activities such as emission from the vehicular exhaust has more significant effects.
