ABSTRACT

Phenol is generally found at very high concentration in effluents of coke-oven and many chemical plants in India which is quite toxic to aquatic life if left untreated. Rice-husk (an agro-residue) being the source of carbon was tested for its potential as an adsorbent for Phenol. By this study it can be concluded that thermo chemically treated Rice-husk can be used as low-cost adsorbent in the removal of initial concentration of phenol to a large extent in India.
