INVESTIGATION OF ALDEHYDE EMISSION FROM AN ALCOHOL FUELED S.I. ENGINE

ABSTRACT

 

The objective of the present work is to investigate the performance and emission characteristics of a four stroke spark ignited (SI) engine fueled with alcohol based tri fuel blend (Ethanol + Methanol + Gasoline). The cylinder dynamic pressure, exhaust CO, HC, CO2, NOx, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde emissions were measured and recorded for analysis. DNPH method was used to estimate Formaldehyde and Acetaldehyde concentration in the exhaust. The experimental results indicate reduction in CO and HC emissions along with increase in formaldehyde and acetaldehyde emissions with increase in alcohol percentage in the blend.
