SCREENING STUDIES OF MICROBIAL SPECIES FOR L-ASPARAGINASE PRODUCTION

ABSTRACT

 

L-asparaginase enzyme has food industry application and is an anti-cancer agent used in chemotherapy. L-asparaginase is relatively wide spread in nature, found in many microbial species like E.coli, Aerobacter, Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Xanthomonas, Serratia, Photo bacterium and Streptomyces. A wide spread attempt was made to narrow down the species for the production of the given enzyme. The aim of the present study is to get microbial strains naturally which are capable of producing L-asparaginase enzyme. In this current study, soil samples were collected and different species were isolated, screened and grown in a variety of media by varying growth parameters, incubation time and conditions and finally narrowed down to a few species, which are capable of producing variable quantities of L-asparaginase enzyme. These strains are preserved for further studies.
