PREPARATION OF NANOWIRE PtRu ON DEXTRAN FOR PROTON EXCHANGE MEMBRANE FUEL CELL

ABSTRACT

 

A Gas Diffusion Electrode (GDE), an important component of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) for converting the chemical energy to electrical energy, was prepared from PtRu nanowire catalyst on biopolymer using dextran as its template. The prepared GDE was to enhance the conductivity by increasing the surface area for electro chemical reaction of PEMFC. Firstly, PtRu catalysts, including two forms of nanowire and nanoparticle for comparison, were coated on carbon nanofiber paper to make a GDE. Electrochemical reaction of GDE was analyzed by Cyclic Voltammetry (CV). The results showed that the electrochemical efficiency of PtRu nanowire coated GDE was higher than that of PtRu nanoparticle coated GDE.
