LENGTH - WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP OF Labeo rohita AND Labeo gonius (HAMILTON-BUCHANAN) FROM SONE BEEL, THE BIGGEST WETLAND OF ASSAM, INDIA

ABSTRACT

 

The length–weight relationship of the same species may be different in the population because of feeding, reproduction activities and fishing. It is therefore necessary to know the length weight relationships of fish which are captured in a given place and given time. Information of the length -weight relationships of Labeo rohita and Labeo gonius is scarce hence this study conducted for the purpose of establishing the length weight relationship of these two fish species from Sone Beel, Karimganj Assam India. The values of the Log C and n are 0.3491 and 1.2159 respectively for Labeo rohita while those of Labeo gonius are Log C and n 1.2343 and 0.4297 respectively. The length-weight relationship of a fish is basically a measure of its growth pattern and or age. It also helps to evaluate the condition, reproduction history, life cycle and the general health of the fish species. The study presents valuable data for fisheries scientists and other researchers.
