STATUS OF ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS OF URBAN HEALTH IN JALGAON, INDIA: A GEOGRAPHICAL REVIEW

ABSTRACT

 

The main objectives of present study is to know and evaluate the status of environmental factors on urban health in Jalgaon city, India. The study is mainly based on the primary data, collected through well structured schedule, purposively stratified random sampling method. The incidence of communicable diseases recorded 90% in household, where location of source of drinking water is away from house followed by 88.22 and 80.01% in near and within premises resp. Diarrhea/gastroenteritis typhoid recorded 90.91% where source of drinking water is hand pump/well and 88.10 and 80.05 in shared and own tap respectively. Diseases in kachcha house (89.10%) is slightly more than pucca and semi-pucca type of house, such as anemia, obesity, diabetes mellitus etc, which are non-communicable in pucca house (21.95%) are slightly more than kachcha and semi-pucca type of house. The households having only one room recorded more communicable diseases (88.20%) i.e. common cold, conjunctivitis, scabies etc. than households having 2 or more than 2 rooms. Common cold, tuberculosis etc. are recorded high i.e. 89.21 percent in houses having 1 door, hyper tension etc. are found high in houses having more than 3 doors and windows.
