REDUCTION OF N-SUBSTITUTED PYRROLIDINONE VIA GREEN AND ECOFRIENDLY METHODS

ABSTRACT

 

Reduction of the N-Benzyl-3-pyrrolidinone and N-methyl-3-pyrrolidinone were studied by two ecofriendly methods viz. Microbial transformation using Bakerís yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in free as well as immobilized form in water-isopropanol media and electrochemical synthesis at constant potential using stainless steel electrode (SS-316). Electrochemical behaviour of the selected substrate were studied using cyclic voltammetry to establish optimum condition for reduction such as media, supporting electrolytes, prior to electrochemical transformation. Optimum reduction potential range and pH were determined which were subsequently used in their electrochemical reduction at constant current by using Stainless Steel Electrode (SS-316). The products obtained in each case were purified by chromatographic technique and characterized by different spectral techniques.
